You are cordially invited to attend the First International Symposium on the Geology of the Maghrebides chain and adjacent areas (CIGCM 2016) which will take place 4-6 December 2016 in Setif (Algeria). The Symposium will be held in the Institut d'Architecture et des Sciences de la Terre of Ferhat Abbas University, Setif 1, one of the Algeria's largest universities.
The geology of Northern Algeria is part of the regional geology of the Maghrebian orogenic domain, comprising the Maghrebides chain and the Atlas. The purpose of the symposium is to gather national and international experts and PHD students to present and exchange recent research findings on the geology of the Maghrebides chain and adjacent areas (including the Atlasic domain). The word "geology" is taken in its broadest sense and embraces issues related to fundamental geology, geophysics, mineral resources, engineering geology and geological heritage.
International scientific projects initiated in recent years have brought big advances in the geology and the sismotectonic of the Maghrebides chain, for example, the SPIRAL (Sismique profonde et Investigations Régionales en ALgérie) project devoted to study the deep structure of the Algerian margin. Another ongoing project, IRSES-Medyna (Maghreb-EU Research Staff Exchange on Geodynamics, Applied Geology and Geohazards in Northwest Africa), is also dedicated to the geology of the northwestern part of the African plate. CIGM 2016 is an opportunity to review these two projects by devoting them special sessions during the symposium.
Welcome to Setif
